Does anyone know how to change system icons on Windows XP?

I want to replace the Windows XP desktop icons with new icons I've downloaded. I've tried right clicking on properties, but the 'Change Icon' button isn't there. I'm guessing for the system icons there's a more complexed way of changing them. If anyone can help, that would be golden.Does anyone know how to change system icons on Windows XP?
