How do I change the icon for a file?

So I had some files on my computer (cbr) and uninstalled the program it used as a default to open the file. I installed a different program and it didn't recognize this new program automatically so I had to right click, open with, choose program, and browse for the program in C. The icons for these files now have the symbol of the program but on a page with the top right corner folded. (XP) Right click your desktop and go to properties then to desktop tab. Next click on customize desktop and click on each of the icons (one at a time) then click on change icon.

MS DOS executables do not have 'resource' portion containing icons and other stuff , so you can't change it directly. What you can do is create a shortcut link on desktop or start menu and change it's icon clicking on 'properties' and selecting 'change icon'How can i change the icon of a 16-bit MS-DOS application?
