How to change icons on file?

first of all - not with properties, they dont give u an icon change option for many files there.



second - nothing that costs moeny, i just wanna change a stupid icon without paying 10 bucks.How to change icons on file?
create a shortcut to the file you want to change the icon. Then go to the properties of the shortcut and change the icon there. .exe files dont let you change the icon, but a shortcut for anything will allow you to change the icon.

Or you can go to control panel, go to folder options. click the tab file types.

find the extension of the file you wish to change the icon for. It will do it for all file types of the extension you chose.

for .pdf for example, go down the list to .pdf and click advanced, then change icon.

There are also change icon softwares you can get for free, but you'll have to search for it at download.com or something.
