How to change icon color on a mac?

I have an external hard that is always going to be plugged in, and the yellow icon color is distracting and clashes with my desktop picture. How can I change the yellow icon to another color, or a picture?

Highlight the icon and hit command-info.

Then, open your icon (preferably with preview) and select the whole icon. Then copy.

Go back to the window that came up with command-i. Highlight the icon in the upper left and hit paste. Your new icon will appear

PS. you may want to be sure of the icon you would like to use, as I have experienced trouble re-changing the icon for portable media.
